The 10 Best Beaches in Miami

Miami Beach is the ultimate American paradise. Though the country has other great destinations to offer, this exquisite coastline is just something else. From the bright sunshine to the smell of the salty sea breezes lingering in the air, it's no surprise that locals and tourists alike love spending time here, especially during summer. They'd usually hang out on some of the best beaches in Miami, namely South Beach, Mid-Beach, Haulover Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, and Surfside Beach, to name a few. They may seem like they're all the same to an untrained eye, but there's something about these beaches that make draw people in.

The 10 Best Beaches in Miami

South Beach

South Beach is perhaps the most famous beach and neighborhood in Miami. Though it's technically a string of coastlines, most consider it as one big beach. And it's here where most of the fun happens. From the coolest beach parties to even music festivals, South Beach is home to the most electric energy in Miami. If you developed this idea that Miami is a party city, it's because of South Beach. That alone should tell just how important this place really is.

South Pointe Park Pier

There are two main parts of South Pointe Park Pier in Miami Beach. First is the shoreline itself. With its soft sand and serene waves, it's a typical coast you'd expect in the city. Though it's mostly quieter compared to the other beaches in Miami, it still gets pretty lively every once and a while. Especially around summer. Now, the second part is, as you'd expect, the pier. With its big esplanade and scenic walkway, this is one of the best places to enjoy the seaside without having to get wet.

Mid-Beach

Between 21st and 45th Street, you'll find Mid-Beach. The “Mid” in its name doesn't mean that the beach is just “alright.” It's more so that this beach is pretty much in the middle (literally) of Miami Beach. The shoreline itself is anything but mid! It's a white sandy coast that can almost rival the best beaches in Phuket, St. Barts, Corfu, and more. Beyond just swimming in the sea and getting a tan, you can also enjoy a nice stroll, play with your dogs, and more here.

North Beach Oceanside Park

North Beach Oceanside Park is much more of a park than your average beach in Miami. Though its main highlight is still its pristinely white sandy shoreline, other attractions are getting as much attention too. With a dog park, cycling trails, and playgrounds on offer, the park mostly attracts families who want to spend a nice sunny day outside. And they'll have as much fun on the beach as they would in other parts of the park.

Haulover Beach

What's another great beach in Miami? Haulover Beach! Located right by the famous Collins Avenue, this beach has plenty of fun to offer. Right off the bat, there's the designated dog area. If you want to bring your pup along so they can splash away too, you couldn't have picked a better place! Haulover Beach is also popular since it's one of the very few that allows you bare it all... literally! It serves as a quasi-nude beach too.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Want to travel back in time? Look no further than Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park! Also located in Key Biscayne, this shoreline has largely remained the same for decades, possibly even centuries. You won't find any skyscrapers and modern resorts lining the shoreline. Instead, there are plenty of trees and the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse. No visit to this place is complete without climbing up all 109 of its steps to reach the top!

Surfside Beach

Despite its name, surfing isn't exactly what makes Surfside Beach among the best beaches in Miami. There are people who surf here, sure, but not as many as you'd think. Instead, this place is more known for its small-town vibe and peaceful atmosphere. Against the hustle and bustle of the city, Surfside Beach offers a nice sunny retreat. Even when families take over on weekends and in summer, the energy here remains as chill as ever! Sounds cool, doesn't it?

Sunny Isles Beach

Lined with luxury apartments and five-star resorts, Sunny Isles Beach is Miami's answer to the French Riviera. Of course, both destinations couldn't be farther apart from each other in terms of vibe and aesthetics. While you won't exactly feel the Mediterranean magic of the Riviera, you'll still experience a similar high-class vibe. Not to mention the same sort of serenity too. Far quieter compared to the other beaches in Miami, Sunny Isles Beach is another sun-kissed escape worth retreating to.

Crandon Park Beach

Located at the northern end of Key Biscayne, Crandon Park Beach is where you'll find thrill-seekers and adventurers. From kiteboarding to scuba diving, there's a lot of fun to be had at this shoreline. If you're one to do all sorts of things at the beach apart from the usual swimming and sun-tanning, this place is for you. No matter what it is you want to do, there's a good chance you'll be able to do it here at Crandon Park Beach!

Matheson Hammock Park Beach

To say that Matheson Hammock Park Beach is different from all the other beaches in Miami is an understatement! True to its name, this place is more of a hammock ecosystem than a regular shoreline. The shore and its tropical trees encircle what's essentially a massive tidal pool, making for quite a stunning natural wonder. And within this pool, you can swim, snorkel, and do all sorts of water sports and activities. What more could you ask for?
