It's about this time of the year that's perfect to watch a scary movie. Of course, it's mostly because Halloween is just around the corner. It's the only time of the year when you're allowed to scare people or get scared yourself. But there's also the cool autumn weather. Though it's beautiful outside, there's nothing better than to cozy up indoors and watch a movie that will send shivers down your spine. And if you have a Netflix account, you can do just that! Watch the best scary movies on Netflix right now! They include “Insidious” (2010), “Crimson Peak” (2015), It (2017), and “Fear Street” (2022).

The 10 Best Scary Movies on Netflix Right Now

Insidious (2010)

Back when it premiered in 2010, critics and movie-goers alike regarded 'Insidious' as one of, if not the scariest movie ever made. It tells the story of Josh and Renai Lambert, a seemingly normal family whose son, Dalton, gets possessed by someone, or something, sinister. Filmmaker James Wan directed this before he went on to make the more successful and equally horrific 'Conjuring' series. So in many ways, 'Insidious' was a precursor to what has become one of the most successful film franchises of all time.

Let Me In (2010)

If you want some romance with your horror flick, then look no fur than the Matt Reeves-directed 'Let Me In' from 2010. The movie stars Kodi Smit-McPhee as Own, a bullied 12-year-old who falls in love with Abby, a young vampire. With such a premise, you can already expect a lot of blood and gore here, far from the other romantic flicks you and your special someone are used to. Still, 'Let Me In' is a great movie to watch as you cuddle up to your partner this Halloween.

Creep (2014)

'Creep' is the perfect title for this 2014 found footage film directed by Patrick Brice. He also stars as the protagonist, Aaron, a videographer who films Josef (played by Mark Duplass) during what they both expected would be his final days. Josef revealed to Aaron that he has a brain tumor and that he expects to die soon. Little did Aaron know, however, that Josef isn't who he really seems and has a few skeletons in the closet... literally!

Crimson Peak (2015)

Despite the major star power, lavish costumes, and grand sets, the 2015 'Crimson Peak,' is still one of the best scary movies on Netflix right now. It's as cinematic as it gets, sure, but it can still give you the creeps! Mia Wasikowska stars as Edith Crushing, a budding author who meets English baron Sir Thomas Sharpe (played by Tom Hiddleston) and his sister, Lucille (played by Jessica Chastain). From the outside, these two look and seem like the perfect aristocratic pair of siblings. But dark secrets and even darker sins lurk behind the ornate corners of their opulent mansion in the English countryside.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)

What happens when a devastated widow uses an Ouija board to try contacting her dead husband? A whole lot of horror, that's what! As seen in the 2016 flick, 'Ouija: Origin of Evil,' it's best not to use this particular item when contacting the other side. You never know who might respond! Or in the movie's case, who might possess your young daughter and use her body to commit unspeakable acts! The film is as sinister as it gets, making it one of the top scary movies on Netflix that's perfect for a Halloween viewing!

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

In the now successful 'Conjuring' film franchise, many regard the second installment as the scariest of them all. Although the first movie was undoubtedly bone-chilling, it's the sequel that introduced many of the franchise's now-famous monsters. They include the Nun, a terrifying demon that Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively) have to exorcise, and the now-iconic Annabelle Doll. After the success of this sequel and the succeeding installments, these characters have become just as famous as the classic Dracula or Frankenstein monsters.

It (2017)

Although the 1990 ABC mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's 'It' is practically a classic horror film (even though it's not a film, per se!), the 2017 remake lives up to its legacy. As one of the finest scary movies on Netflix right now, it's the perfect flick to watch with a group of friends on Halloween. But what makes this film so great? Among many things, it's Bill Skarsgård's performance as Pennywise the Clown that will take your breath away... literally!

Cam (2018)

The 2018 horror flick, 'Cam,' is as 21st-Century as it can get! It's the perfect scary movie for the times, especially how it makes use of modern technology as an integral part of its biggest thrills. The film stars Madeline Brewer as Alice, a camgirl who puts on sexually promiscuous live shows to earn a living. She's obsessed with becoming the number one camgirl out there and will do anything to reach that goal. This movie depicts just how far such an obsession can drag anyone to the depths of their own hell.

His House (2020)

To say that Remi Weekes's 2020 thriller film, 'His House,' is horrific is a huge understatement. Never has a movie made use of trauma as a monster so elegantly. Bol (played by Wunmi Mosaku and Rial (Sope Dirisu) are refugees from South Sudan who braved massive storms and treacherous crossings to get to the UK. They settle down in a shabby house in the outer districts of London, only to discover that their true horror as escaped refugees has only just begun.

Fear Street (2021)

And finally, there's the 2021 'Fear Street' trilogy. Based on the book series by R.L. Stine, it's a franchise targeted at younger audiences. You mature viewers might not find these as tame compared to all the other scary movies on Netflix, but they're still a good time. Telling various horror stories of the teens who live at Shadyside, its Goosebumps-like vibe induces a lot of nostalgia for those who grew up with the famous franchise.
