Flying Off to Sardinia

Of course, the easiest way to get to Sardinia is to take a flight going here. The island has three separate airports—Alghero, Cagliari, and Olbia—that welcomes international flights that come from all over Europe. Particularly if you came from a capital city like Paris, Madrid, London, Stockholm, Brussels, Dublin, and more. Of course, they also welcome flights coming from the Italian mainland, especially from the major cities like Rome, Milan, Venice, and more. In terms of when to fly here, the summer season often has the most number of flights coming to and from Sardinia.


Where to Come From For Affordable Flights

Now, although flying to Sardinia is the easiest option, it's not always the most affordable. Even when flights were scarce because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the airfare to get here was usually expensive. But now, since Italy has reopened just one time for the summer season, there are a ton of options for more affordable flights going to Sardinia. Although there are a few cities wherein you can get the most affordable airfares if they were your place of departure. They include Barcelona, Berlin, Bratislava, and London, among many others. From Airport to Sardinia

Now that you know about the island's three airports, there's still the issue of actually getting to the many cities of Sardinia. If you're coming from Olbia airport, which is nearer to the northern part of the island, you can easily get to town by bus. The nearest one, of course, is Olbia city, in which it will take you ten minutes to get there and it will only cost you €1.00 to €1.50 for a single-ride ticket. If you land at Alghero airport, on the other hand, taking a taxi to the center of Alghero city typically costs €20.00 to €25.00. You'd do well using a transportation app here too!


Taking The Train to Sardinia

Now, if you're coming from Cagliari airport, which is arguably the most common port of entry for many international tourists, there's actually a unique option you can take apart from the buses to taxis. It's only from Cagliari airport that you can take a train to the nearest towns in Sardinia. A single-ride ticket only costs €1.30, which you can purchase either at the station or online. Do note that the trains run from 5:00 am in the morning to 9:00 pm at night and they depart the station every 20 minutes. Make sure you're not late in boarding your train!

Traveling by Ferry

If you're already in Europe, especially in Italy, another great option is to take a ferry to get to Sardinia. Although this often proves more complicated and longer than flying out here, it's nevertheless an available and oftentimes more affordable option. As for how long it'd take, it depends on where you're coming from. If you're taking a ferry from Corsica in France, for instance, it will only take you around 50 minutes to get to Cagliari. However, if you're coming from Naples, it'll be around 13 to 16 hours in total. Ironically, you're better off departing from France or Spain than from mainland Italy.


Driving All Over Sardinia

Now, when you get to the island of Sardinia, how are you going to get around here? As already mentioned, there are buses and taxis there but won't that take up a lot of your budget? Especially if you rely on transportation apps! Before you know it, all your money was spent on taxi rides and bus fares. You wouldn't want that, right? Of course, not! So the wiser choice would be to rent a vehicle here! Don't worry, there are a ton of rental services in Sardinia. Be sure to book online so that you won't have to face such a hassle when you get here!
