Description

With so many UNESCO-protected heritage sites across Athens, it's almost impossible to find, much less live in ancient, historical structures within the city, which is why our 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom historical villa near the Acropolis is a rare gem. This 200-year old 2-storey home is one of very few historical properties you can rent in Plaka, Central Athens, making it a very special property in our catalog. Located right under the nose of the Acropolis, this beautiful home with a well-manicured garden has breathtaking views of the city, including a view of the walls of the Acropolis from one of the bedrooms.

Built at the lower foundations of the ancient Acropolis complex, old walls and some ancient columns may still be found running through the house. On the first floor of the home, there is a medium-sized hole, framed by sturdy glass, which offers a glimpse of the actual rock foundations used to build the Acropolis millenias ago. This crater was made during an actual archaeological dig years ago done inside the home.

This lovely home is tucked away behind two large wooden gates, in a relatively quiet, uphill street that veers off of the lively Plaka district. Due to its distance from the bustling markets and busy alleyways of Plaka, there exists an air of calmness and privacy in this property. As you walk through the villa's gates, you are welcomed by a small front garden with ample patio furniture seating, including an outdoor living room set, and a small coffee table and seats. Towards the far end of the courtyard, you will find a small altar dedicated to St. Paraskevi, an important religious personality among the Greek faithful.

A little further, you can find a low tunnel that serves as the entryway to the back garden. Underneath this structure is a long table with two seats on either ends.

Behind the outdoor lounge, there is a set of narrow stairs which lead you to the roof terrace of the property. Here, you can take a gander at the city of Athens, and important landmarks that dot it like Lycabettus and the Olympic stadium at Kallimarmaro. Walls of the Acropolis may also be seen from behind the house.

On the first floor of the rental, you will find a spacious Greek dining room and a kitchen, both of which are tastefully adorned with countryside-style decor, including family heirlooms, including ancient artifacts found on-site, belonging to the property owner. The rectangular wooden dining table is amply sized and surrounded by 5 seats. Other seats may be found around the house. A large shelf, which keeps all porcelain tea cups, mugs, plates, bowls, and dining utensils, rests to the side of the dining room.

Meanwhile, the kitchen entry is found in the next room, adjacent to the dining room. It is fully-equipped with the usual cooking amenities, appliances, and food preparation equipment that you may need.

Three of four bedrooms are also found on the lower level of this charming, historical home. The first bedroom is fitted with a double-sized bed, the second with 2 single beds, and the third with 1 single daybed. Two of these bedrooms have access to en suite bathrooms with showers and toilets.

The master bedroom is situated on the second floor, in the room adjacent to a spacious living room with an ornamental fireplace. To access the second floor, simply take the short set of wooden stairs from the firts floor. The master bedroom features a queen-sized bed, access to its en suite bathroom which has a bathtub, a shower corner, a lavatory, and toilet. Like the first floor, archaeological pieces are scattered all throughout the second floor, especially in the living room and master bedroom.

What makes this villa extra special is the presence of not just one, but two cozy living rooms on the second floor. Make more memories and dive into conversations while you lounge in any of the two living rooms.
