Description

A quiet retreat in a big city

In the northern district of Highbury, the quiet charming streets harbors a kind of intimacy that starkly contrasts its location in one of the world’ biggest cities. The boulevards are hemmed with ancient pubs and locally-owned shops, tamed by the mature streets that have born witness to the district’s long London history.

In this quaint neighborhood is situated York Rise, a homely, cozy estate built in three floors, a fine stay for guests of 2 to 6. Its interior has a familiar aura of home, decorated by original fireplaces and stripped wooden decors, with hand-painted tile finish.

Completing its domestic allure is the fact that you are just minutes away from the best spots in the area, Leicester Square included.

Your friends in Highbury

The whole area is bright, beautifully bathed in natural light during the day, thanks to its splendid location. The polished herringbone flooring gives a nice contrast to the vibrant walls. The living space or sitting room is populated by a cherry red Lawson with interesting painting pieces on the wall. You will enjoy warm nights chilled at the Le Corbusier chaise lounge by the gas fireplace.

The kitchen surely gives off a cottage-y vibe with its checkered flooring and butler sink, replete with Victorian drying rack.

There are two bedrooms with their own fireplaces, each of which can easily be the favorite spots in the house if not for the inviting terrace where potted herbs and plants give you company while peacefully watching the hypnotizing commotion of life on the street below.

You are welcomed by your hostess who works in a charity fundraising and your graphic designer host. The two have called York Rise their home for the last decade and absolutely love Sunday mornings which they spend by having a long walk on the Heath after a nice breakfast out in the terrace.

Additional Guest Information:

  • The sofa in the sitting room can be transformed into a double sofa bed. Before your arrival, do let us know how you’d like the room to be arranged so we can set them up accordingly beforehand.

  • If you want the sofabed to be placed in the sofabed room, we’ll be happy to provide a hanging rail.

  • Expect signs of wear and tear as this is a loved home.

  • We welcome babies and children but the home may not be suitable for your toddlers.

  • We do not have air conditioning. If you happen to visit during June to September, we will provide fans in every bedroom. Please let us know beforehand if you want them or not as requests do vary from guest to guest.
