Although the village is more famous for its private beaches, more than a handful of public beaches in which you can lounge around for free. Just a few steps from the port is the Plage de Bouillabaisse in which there are free public showers, toilets, and a seaside restaurant. The sandy beach situated close to the main road of Route des Salins called Plage des Canoubiers also has free public showers and toilet facilities, and it is famous among the locals. The pine tree shaded Plage des Salins is a family-friendly sandy beach with lifeguards during the summer season, and also has public showers and toilet facilities. Located in the village’s old quarter are the small beaches called Plage de la Ponche and Plage de la Fontenette. These beaches are less crowded, and, although they do not have food outlets on the beach, it is surrounded by nearby restaurants. In addition to the mentioned well-equipped beaches, St. Tropez also has beaches without public restrooms or showers, some of which includes the Plage des Graniers located near the village center, and the Plage de la Moutte which is an ideal picnic spot.
The Vieux Port is the heart of Saint-Tropez wherein small fishing boats and luxury yachts are anchored. Lined with pastel Mediterranean houses and quaint outdoor-terraced cafés, Vieux Port—or Old Port of Marseille—is located at the end of a major street in Marseille called Canebière. Café Senequier, one of the most famous establishments along Vieux Port which receives over 60,000 customers per year, including famous celebrities touring Saint-Tropez. Make sure to drop by this café so you can do one of the most enjoyable activities in Saint-Tropez: leisurely drinking refreshments under the sun while people watching. Close to the harbor is an ancient market square called Place aux Herbes wherein fruits, vegetables, and flower stalls line the area early in the morning. Nearby Place aux Herbes is another market called Halle aux Poissons wherein fresh fish from Provence is sold. The Môle Jean-Réveille on the north side of the harbor is a promenade that allows you to see the picturesque Vieux Port, so make sure that you drop by the promenade so that you can take exceptionally clear photos of the beautiful harbor.
Bordering Vieux Port is the Old Town on Saint-Tropez called La Ponche. The historic quarter of the once quiet fishing village, La Ponche is the most beautiful area of Saint-Tropez. With its cobblestone lanes and its abundance of shops, boutiques, cafés, and restaurants, La Ponche is the top historic site in Saint-Tropez. As beautiful as the area is, tourists may get flustered on where to go first, and it is recommended that you start your trip at the Rue de la Citadelle which would lead you to the town center. Upon going through the Citadelle, the Rue du Portail-Neuf is on its left, and walk through until you arrive at Eglise de Notre-Dame de l’Assomption with its baroque bell tower that pierces through the St. Tropez skyline. A bust of Saint Tropez is placed inside along with some wood carvings. A few steps from Hôtel de Ville is the Palais des Bailli Pierre-André de Suffren erected in honor of one of the most important French admirals in the 18th-century.
Another St. Tropez top attraction is the Musée de l'Annonciade that occupies the former Chapel of the Annunciation. Located just a few steps from the harbor, the museum has an incredible collection of Impressionist paintings that serve as a reminder that Saint-Tropez used to be the center of the avant-garde painting. In addition to Impressionist paintings, it also has an impressive artwork collection, ranging from Paul Signac’s Pointillist style to Pierre Bonnard’s Nabis-style work. Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, Edouard Vuillard, Raoul Dufy, and Maurice de Vlaminck's works are also exhibited here. The Musée de l'Annonciade is open daily except for Monday, from 10 AM to 6 PM, and entrance to the museum only costs €6.
