Cagliari’s Medieval streets and tall bastions are only a few kilometers away from the ruins of Nora, an ancient city wherein Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans traded. Just a few minutes to the east of Nora is a Sardinian beach wherein you can lie under the sun while admiring the Torre del Castellazzo di Nora to the south.

Sardinia’s beautiful beaches can be found in the town of Olbia, extending up to the tip of Capo de Testa. Known to the world as Costa Smeralda, the beaches in the area are set in coves as green and clear waters flow through it. The area is filled with celebrity-laden sandy beaches, private jet and helicopter services, golf clubs, and exclusive hotels. The resort village called Porto Cervo is the town’s center in which marina is situated for the private yachts built in the area in the 1960s. Costa Smeralda is the most expensive European location, with houses priced at €300,000 per square meter. As beautiful as Costa Smeralda may be, the only activities it can offer to its day trippers are people watching and a trip to the Monte di Mola (MdM) museum in which constantly changing exhibits are displayed. MdM also has a terrace café overlooking the beautiful Porto Cervo.

A different world is what describes the Arzachena Prehistoric Sites. Another notable tomb in the area is the tomb of Coddu Vecchiu. Other tombs and prehistoric sites in Arzachena are worth visiting as well for this is an experience is both historical and cultural

Stone tower remains are scattered all over Sardinia, but the Nuraghe Su Nuraxi has the best preserved and complete towers that you can visit. Located close to Cagliari, Nuraghe Su Nuraxi has timber in its central tower walls which date back to 1,500 BC. Its outer towers were built in the 11th or 12th-century BC and are regarded by UNESCO as one of the best restorations in the Mediterranean. You may climb the spiral stairways of the tower to take a closer look at the mortarless dome stacked with dry stones. Nearby Su Nuraxi is the Casa Zapata Museum wherein another nuraghe is located. The nuraghe was discovered while Casa Zapata was being restored in 1990.

Located at the northwestern side of Sardinia is a seaside city called Alghero wherein Spanish-speaking Italians reside. The Spanish influence was a result of an event in history when Sardinia was given to the King of Aragon by a 14th-century Pope. The King fiefdoms to 400 families coming from Aragon and Catalonia if they would move and settle in the island of Sardinia, specifically in Alghero. A point of interest in Alghero is this 14th-century cathedral with Spanish influence in its architecture. And if one has more time to linger in this seaside city, head over to this wall built by the Spaniards that was initially made as protection from attacks of the sea, which you may climb over to watch the setting sun over the blue Mediterranean sea and end the day with a breath-taking sight.
